Every year, many of us set New Years’ resolutions for the year to come. But they don’t happen without action. What if the first action you take to achieve this years’ resolution by signing up for a free or paid course to help you develop the tools, knowledge or skillset to achieve?
1. Weight Loss
Weight loss is often a big goal. We live in a modern western world in which obesity is at a record high. People SHOULD be more concerned about their weight. In years past, many people went down to the local fitness center and signed up for a 1 year membership. Gyms are notoriously busy this time of year as people try to start the new year off on the right foot. But in a month or two, willpower starts to break down and gym attendance goes back to normal levels. It happens every year.
But what if this year, in addition to signing up for a gym, you took some courses as well. Learned about nutrition, learned about managing a healthy weight, or learned about how to exercise properly from experts before just attempting to life a few light weights for an hour.

2. Personal Finances
With interest rates remaining in a very low range for such a long time, saving and investing is not just a matter of sticking your money in the bank or in a CD (certificate of deposit) any more. Earning 0% or 0.5% on your money is just not going to make your money work for you and enable you to have a good retirement. So that’s why we all need to learn a bit more about managing our money. Cutting expenses, getting rid of debt, increasing our incomes, and saving and investing for long term growth in a good formula for success. Some of the courses below will help you get better with your money.
Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover – $11 – not a course, but I personally highly recommend reading this
Universal Class – Personal Finance 101 – $55 – seems to cover the basics
Many of us own the bigger digital SLR cameras, but leave it always set to the automatic setting. Yes, the pictures that come out of our Canon’s or Nikon’s or Sony’s are better than the cell phone cameras many have, but don’t you get the feeling that these powerful and expensive cameras can do a lot more that we’re not using? Many people choose to take a photography class to learn how to do that, and there are several online.
