Quick, how many islands make up the United States? If you said “all those Hawaiian islands”, you would be wrong. There are actually at least 20 other islands that can claim association to the USA, including Puerto Rico (oh yeah!), Guam, and the US Virgin Islands. And there are more than a dozen uninhabited islands (some barely mounds of sand in the ocean) that America claims ownership of, but are not states.
