Five Minute Monday – Why Isn’t the Sky Purple?

I actually (naively) thought I knew why the sky was blue. I would tell (anyone who seemed remotely interested in the reason) that red light is more easily filtered by the blue light can make it through the atmosphere. Well, little did I know that was only a partial answer.

Blue is actually not at the end of the visible light spectrum – violet is. So why isn’t the sky violet?
