New Course of the Week – History of Rock Part II

Our regular Friday feature continues, with another music course. This time, it’s History of Rock, Part II¬†offered by the University of Rochester on the Coursera platform. This is a continuation of the History of Rock, Part I course from a few weeks back. In Part 2, the professor moves through the more modern era of rock such as the 1970’s and 1980’s.

Learn about the growth of rock music, from the early 1970s through the rise of punk and disco in the late 1970s, and from the emergence of MTV, hip hop, and heavy metal in 1980s to the rebellion of Nirvana in the early 90s.

For some, this should be the more interesting course of the two. Certainly the rise of punk rock, MTV, hip hop and heavy metal are some interesting upheavals in the music industry.
