New Course of the Week – Introduction to Genetics for Beginners

First of all, Happy Valentines Day!

Speaking of matters of the heart, what is more romantic than genetics! It’s the basis of our DNA, our genes, mutations, and haplotypes. And determines our blood type. Udacity is offering a free course called “Tales from the Genome: Introduction to Genetics for Beginners“. And the course syllabus says this:

You will learn about fundamental principles of inheritance, gene expression, mutation and variation, development of simple and complex biological traits, human ancestry and evolution, and the acquisition of personal genetic information. By the end of this course, you will be able to read and understand genetic information available from personal genetics services such as 23andMe.

Looks like a fun course, if you look at the trailer video. The professor seems to bring a lot of energy to it which is always good. Ever wonder why some people can’t drink milk? Or why some people are more resistant to the harmful rays of the sun (due to a darker skin tone)? Anyways, if this sounds interesting to you, this “take at your own pace” course from Udacity could be for you.

It’s free, and since Udacity doesn’t have a set schedule, you can start it any time you are available.
