New Course of the Week – Introduction to the Music Business

It’s Friday, and that means it’s time for the new course of the week. This week’s course is very interesting to many people – perhaps an insight into a business few people understand or get to see. The course is called “Introduction to the Music Business” and it’s being provided by BerkleeX (and the Berklee College of Music) on the edX platform.

This course will survey key aspects of an evolving industry from recording, publishing, and distribution to legal issues confronting music commerce.

This course has been developed to provide students with the latest instruction on the best way for creators, consumers, and facilitators to navigate the resurgence of one of the world’s most exciting industries: the music business.

I’m not sure if this will be a reflection of how the big music companies like Universal Music Group does business. But perhaps from the point of view of an independent music maker who wants to see how music gets made. From the recording studio to an album in stores and on radio, and all the business deals in between. Could be an interesting option.
