New Course of the Week – Natural Disasters

I don’t think I’ve ever featured a weather course on this site, and it’s about time to correct that. This week’s new course of the week is called Natural Disasters, and is being offered by the Canadian McGill University on the edX platform.

The introduction page describes the course like this:

This course examines the science behind different types of natural disasters and our ability or inability to control and predict such events.

No region of the world is immune from natural disasters. California has earthquakes. Florida has hurricanes. Montreal has ice storms. Hawaii has volcanoes. Japan has tsunamis. Can you predict when and where these will occur?  Can we mitigate against them? Can buildings be built to withstand earthquakes? This course will explore these topics and more.
