New Course of the Week – Social Psychology

First of all, to my American friends and visitors, happy fourth of July! I hope you are celebrating safely, wherever you are.

Starting next week, is a course on social psychology, offered by (small but powerful) Wesleyan University on the Coursera platform.

From the site:

Each of us is dealt a different hand in life, but we all face similar questions when it comes to human behavior: What leads us to like one person and dislike another? How do conflicts and prejudices develop, and how can they be reduced? Can psychological research help protect the environment, and if so, how? This course offers an introduction to classic and contemporary social psychology, covering topics such as decision making, persuasion, group behavior, personal attraction, and factors that promote health and well-being.

The course calls itself “Coursera’s largest class”, which is surprising. Apparently, 170,000 students enrolled the first time this was offered. So it seems understanding how us humans interact with one another socially is a very popular topic. I’ve already signed up for this, and so we’ll see a review here in a few weeks.
