Last night, I hit my head coming down the stairs to the basement. I hit my head hard. The pain was instant, and I had a really bad headache for a little while. You might think that would be the cause of me writing a review of the legendary Hogwarts School, of Harry Potter fame. You would be wrong, since I discovered this site before I hit my head.
The site is real – Hogwarts Is Here. The idea is that you sign up for Hogwarts school like a real student would – taking the same classes as the students do in the movies and books. The site is run by volunteers and not affiliated with J. K. Rowling or the various copyright holders. But the idea is brilliant, and I had to sign up as soon as I saw it. The site makes you select a house when you sign up (unchangeable, so think hard on this), and I chose Slytherin. I bet 90% of people choose Gryffindor or Slytherin.
There are 7 classes for first year students:
- Defense Against the Dark Arts
- History of Magic
You must take and pass all 7 classes in order to move on to second year. You do not need to take them all at once – pick 1, 2 or as many as you think you can handle at once. In second year, you are required to take the same 7 classes (at a more advanced level), plus 2 electives. It will take months to get through all this content.
Each class is 9 weeks long at one lesson per week. You are expected to go through the content, read books, do assignments, take tests, write essays and even pass the final exam. Assignments are graded, and if you fail – you fail. You can get tutoring if you need it. Needless to say, this is serious business.
Hogwarts is waiting for you. Are you up to the task?
